Key concepts
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| Product | The real-world good you design, manufacture, or sell. In Provenant, each product is represented by a model (and optionally batches and items). |
| Model | The master product record in Provenant. Publishing a model generates the DPP and QR code that end users can access. |
| Batch | A group of items under a model, used for batch-level or item-level data (for example, a specific production run). |
| Item | An individual unit within a batch when DPP per item is enabled. Each item can receive its own QR code and lifecycle events. |
| DPP (Digital Product Passport) | The digital record generated from a model (and its batches, items, and events). It aggregates product, environmental, and compliance data and is accessed via QR. |
| Alignment tool | The built-in alignment check that shows how well a model meets defined requirements (for example, regulatory or internal). Used to identify missing or non-compliant data before publishing. |
| Components | Reusable sub-parts or materials (for example, fabric, buttons, zippers) that can be linked to multiple models to avoid duplicate data entry. |
| Event | A timestamped milestone in the product or batch journey (for example, production, certification, recycling). Events are shown on the DPP timeline. |
| Template | Defines the structure and fields available when creating a model (sections like General information, Performance & care, Environmental data, etc.). |
| Documents library | Central library where you upload and reuse evidence (such as LCAs, EPDs, certificates) across models and batches. |
| Suppliers | External partners providing materials, components, or processing steps. Supplier-related information can appear in components, events, and documentation to support transparency. |
| Compliance | The state of meeting external regulations and internal policies (for example ESPR or customer requirements). Provenant supports this through templates, the alignment tool, and DPP content. |
| Roles & Permissions | Fine-grained access control that defines who can view, edit, publish, or manage resources. All user actions are auditable. |
